Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
Exodus 33:13 NIV
When Moses stood at threshold between where he had been and where God was asking him to go, he asked God a question.
He asked God for a Name, the Name of the One who was sending him back to where he had ran from.
The Name of the One who promised to go with him.
The Name of the One whose power would be with him.
God answered Moses:
“I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”tell them “I Am” is sending you.” (vs 14)
When Jesus stood on the Temple Courts being asked by the Pharisees where His authority came from, Jesus answered, “before Abraham was, I Am.” That phrase is the Greek equivalent to the name given to the voice from the burning bush.
