“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 NIV
The Greek word for “rest” in Matthew 11:28 means:
1) to cause or permit one to cease from any movement or labor in order to recover and collect his strength
2) to give rest, refresh, to give one’s self rest, take rest
3) to keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation
It is an invitation from Jesus to stop striving and rest.
To stop producing, stop creating and simply breathe.
To take a minute, an hour to do something that fills your soul.
To close your eyes and look at what is going on inside of you.
To open your eyes to love the people who are around you.
It is not a one-time invitation, it is an invitation to live a lifestyle of trust.
Jesus says “come to me” whenever and as often as you need to.
Are you soul tired today?
Come to Jesus, His arms are open for you.
