What You Should Fear

When Jesus sent out His disciples into the villages, He put fear in perspective for them. He told his disciples to focus on the right fear and let all the other fears fall to the wayside. Put your fear in context in respect to what is the most powerful force in the universe – God.

“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Luke 12:4-7 NIV

Jesus told them that if they were going to fear anything – fear God. Respect His power. Put Him in His rightful place – above all others.  If you are going to respect something so much it changes your actions and behavior, let it be God.

Then Jesus told His disciples a truth you need to hear today:

God sees you. God knows you. He has not forgotten you or moved on to someone “more important”.  He doesn’t check in when things get rough, He walks with you all day, everyday. See the birds outside your window? He sees them, he takes care of them and you are worth so much more.  He knows the number of individual hairs on your head (which changes many times over the course of your day). If He knows that detail about you, why do you agonize about the other details of your life?

You will face challenges. All kinds of challenges – physical, financial, relational and more. Life in Christ does not insulate you from living in this world.

Life in Christ fills you with a strength that is not your own to step out with a faith that moves mountains and bring the reality of heaven to the lives of those on earth.

You will face many things that will cause fear to rise. When that happens, stir up your faith and remind yourself that God’s power is greater than whatever you are facing and God’s love is more personal that you can even understand (you don’t even know how many hairs you have on your head).

Live your life with the right perspective of fear.

Tell your fears to fear God because He has more power than they do.

Remind yourself that God will take care of the little things just as well as He has taken care of the biggest thing in your life: where you will spend eternity.
