Why is it so hard to let go of your fears?
It is because you are afraid that if you let go of them than nothing will stop them from happening.
The quote “Don’t tell me worry doesn’t work, because what I worry about doesn’t happen” used to be one of my favorites before I met Jesus.
Basically it’s a control issue. When you are holding on to your fears you can see them and you can work at those fears not coming into fruition.
What would happen if you let them go?
If they were not the center of your thoughts, your relationships, your life?
I am not saying that you won’t experience the emotion of fear, I am saying that God doesn’t want that emotion to be the center of your life. Jesus wants to be the center of your life.
As I was worshiping in church yesterday morning, a familiar fear wondered into my mind. With my hands already lifted in worship, I felt the Lord say to me, “ You can hold onto your fear, or you can give it to me but you can’t do both.”
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
Cast – you can’t throw something without letting it go.
All – every one of them, as they come up.
Your – they are not God’s anxieties but He will take them.
Anxiety – the word used here literally means to be drawn in different directions.
On Him – where to put it, in case you have already forgotten.
Because He – where would you be without Him?
Cares – this is a present active verb as in “caring right now in this present moment “
For you – yes, YOU.
God is caring right now what you are going through, whatever it is. His hands are open. He ready and able to catch your fears, to carry your anxiety.
And He doesn’t leave you empty handed – He gives you His peace for you to fill your heart, head and hands with:
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 NIV
Work on holding onto that today.
Happy No Fear Year continued,
