Have you ever been the last one chosen?

I have never really been great at sports nor had a desire to be. I have had my fair share of that moment. It’s not a good feeling.

Have you ever been forgotten?

My senior year in High School, the year I discovered being loved by God, my new friends from church organized a fun night out and forgot me. They didn’t remember me until after the event was over and they were on their way home. They came to my house after to beg for forgiveness and I forgave them (they felt really really bad about it). Nonetheless I can still feel the sting of rejection when I realized they had forgotten me.

The above examples are moments of hurt but they are not the kinds of moments that give soul scars. There are other moments of rejection that do that. Moments that become memories that hide in the silence and shadows of your heart. They feed into the fears of “not worthy” and enable the core insecurities of “not enough”.

About the same time that my new friends forgot me, I discovered the following verse in the book of Isaiah:

“For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41:9,10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God’s Word brings His light to the shadows and His voice to the silent places in your heart.

Jesus came to bring to completion the Word spoken in Isaiah. It was given to the carriers of His promise, the Jews, but it has been beating in the heart of God for each and every person since the beginning of time.

Jesus came to complete it,
to reclaim you,
to reconcile you with the heart of
His Father who has chosen you,
pursued you,
paid for you,
cherishes you and
will not abandon you.

Old whispers of rejection will remind you of past rejections. They will taint every relationship and interaction you have.

You fear rejection.

Jesus came to empty that word of it’s crippling power.

He is the God who says to you:

I have chosen you and have not rejected you.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭(NIV‬‬)

I’ve picked you. I haven’t dropped you. Don’t panic. I’m with you.
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭(MSG‬‬)

‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: Fear not, for I am with you;” (‭NKJV‬‬)

Jesus will whisper this truth to you everyday, in everyway He can until you will believe it, embrace it and live in it:

Sorry for yelling at you (in capitals) but you haven’t been listening.

Listen and beleive it.
