Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. (Philippians 4:4, 5 NIV)
The word used here for gentleness is really interesting as it describes the heart of a person who will let God fight his battles for him. It describes someone who has let go of trying to control the situation and allowed God to do what He needs to.
Why do you need the reminder to “let your gentleness rule”? Because when you stress, try to control and mold things to the way you think it should be, gentleness is the last thing that you are.
Give the battle to the Lord.
The Lord IS near. He is close to the broken hearted and it is often a broken heart that lashes out in fear.
God knows what is going on and what the best way to handle it is.
When you let go of fear and trust God to fight your battles, you are able to be gentle and merciful to those around you.
