The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart. (Proverbs 17:3 NIV)
When God tests the heart of His child, He is not “testing” it to see what it is made of. He is not testing it to see if it is good enough. He is not looking to see if all the right answers so He can give you a grade.
God already knows what is in your heart…every single thing.
A crucible is a vessel that can take extreme heat and not melt. It is used to melt the silver so that the impurities of the precious metal will rise to the top. Then a refiner will skim it off the top.
Just like the refiner uses a crucible and fire to purify the silver, God uses the fires and trials in your life to bring the dark marks in your heart to the surface.
God uses the fire of circumstance that burns so unbearably hot to reveal the underlying beliefs that are sabotaging your life and the lies that undermining your relationships.
Why? To condemn or make you see how much dirt is there? No. He brings it to the surface so that it can be cleared out, cleaned up and taken off.
God does not set up trials to test your heart but if you allow it, He will use them to purify it.
