We long for wholeness. We seek it and try to find it in all kinds of ways: diet, exercise, relationships, education, career, hobbies or anything else that promises the elusive prize of fulfillment. We taste it in moments then chase after it to feel it again. At least I do, maybe I am the only one.
None of the above list is wrong and each one has some merit of fulfillment. But through those things you will never find the wholeness, the completeness you seek.
It is God’s plan to “complete” you.
He wants to bring you to a place of wholeness and maturity that will enable you to fully enjoy your diet, exercise, relationships, education and hobbies (and get the most out of them).
It is an inside work before it has outside evidence.
It is faith working in you.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” (James 1:2, 3 NIV)
It comes by facing the hard things. Holding on in the tough times. Persevering when everything in you wants to run away because it is uncomfortable, difficult and hard.
“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:4 NIV)
Don’t give up. It is hard.
Hold on to God like he is your Savior and let perseverance finish its work.
We quit halfway through and wonder why we always feel “half done”.
May today be the day you don’t quit. Buckle down, hold on and ride out the storm.
You are worth it.
