Because I am human.
Because I am afraid.
Because I am not in control.
Because I want more life in my life.
Because I want more.

“You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.”
(Isaiah 26:3 NIV)

This “perfect peace” is not the idealized utopia that we sometimes imagine is the place where we will finally “be happy“. It is not the “I will be happy when” syndrome or the “If I can use my willpower to keep my mind on God and trust Him than everything will be perfect” kind of striving.

The word used here is “shalowm“. It means complete, whole, healthy and it is used twice. Shalowm,Shalowm. Peace,Peace. The word for mind, “yetser” means “framework” – like building the frame of a house, or forming a piece of pottery with your hands. It is the foundation to build on, the guiding hands that shape your life.

When you are in a relationship with God, He begins to work on the framework of your mind. He challenges the lies that have grown as weeds, He breaks down the walls that box you in, He lays down the truth as the bones to put flesh on for abundant life.

Because He loves you.
Because He could have just simply saved you.
Because the the price of sin has been paid by Jesus.

He could just leave you to your own defenses to fend for yourself and do your best. But He doesn’t do that. He writes His words for you through the centuries, through the stories, through vessels of men, compiling books of wisdom and moments of sin shattering sacrifice. He pursues a relationship not just a Lordship. He puts His own Spirit within you, pours out His grace upon you and empowers you to change.

Why do I need Him?
Because of all the above.

Why do I trust Him?
Because of all the of the above.

Why can I hope to live in complete peace instead of constant strife?

Because He Is.

“Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”

(Isaiah 26: 4 NIV)

He is The Lord forever.
He is Lord Himself.
He is my Rock eternal.

When all the whys of your life demand answers, give them the best “because” of all time:
Because of GOD.
