Worry Wart

Today is the tomorrow I worried about yesterday”

Don’t tell me worry doesn’t work! What I worry about doesn’t happen.”

Both these quotes came from a little gold book called Apples of Gold and it was the first quote book that I loved. I got it as a graduation gift from my aunt and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Now I know that words are a treasure to me and how precious are those little jewels of wisdom and those priceless gold nuggets of verse.

The above quotes are humorous and when I first got saved I held onto them, especially the second one. It made me feel that I had some modem of control. But I soon realized that 1). I don’t have control ( of others, of circumstances, of life) and 2). I needed better words (God’s Words) to ease the anxious thoughts that relentlessly fill quiet moments.

Worry is a joy stealer.
Anxiety does little but stress you out and make you sick.

If the only energy that moves you into action is a negative one, you might get something done but you will certainly not enjoy the journey. You will certainly not be experiencing His abundant life. You will not be radiant with joy.

“Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;”
(Psalms 34:5a)

It is impossible to be anxious and peaceful.
It is impossible to be filled with worry and be filled with joy.
One cancels out the other and you get to choose (you really do).

My favorite gold nugget of a verse to dispel worry:

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

(Isaiah 41:10 NIV)

You are not alone.
Worry is wasted energy.

Lay it down and for a delicious moment allow yourself to get lost in His love like a new bride daydreams about her beloved. Dream about the wonderful “what if’s” the future might hold. Let your security come from God. Give yourself permission to be radiant within His embrace- then SHINE.
