Somedays, Water for the Soul and Open Eyes

Today’s CoffeeTime Devotion is brought to you from the Lexington Candy Shop Luncheonette on New York’s Upper West Side. It is a charming diner that was established in 1925 with stools that spin at a working old fashioned “soda fountain” where the men behind the bar still wear white costs. For the past couple of years, my friend would text me when she was eating breakfast there and it was a “someday” destination dream. “Someday we need to do breakfast with me here”. Someday arrived Sunday before last. The coffee was amazing and the Walnut Cinnamon Raisin French Toast was off the hook. It was everything “someday” should be including sharing it all with a good friend.

I am trying to get back into the swing of things here back at home including getting in the Word. I am having a tough time. I opened the Word last night and was reading it but nothing stood out. Does that ever happen to you? It happens to me all the time. I went back to the portion of Scripture that I was reading last night and this morning it was like a new experience. It is funny how that happens.

The Word of God for my soul is like water is for my body. Sometimes, I know I am soul thirsty for it and take big gasping gulps of the Word. Other times, I sip it slowly and savor it’s refreshing effect on my heart. Most of time, I just make sure I get some in because I know it is vital for life. It is the single most importing thing I do to truly thrive.

This is what I was reading:

“Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good.” (Prov. 16:2 MSG)

We so often look into mirror to judge how we are doing. We see that something or somebody “looks good” on the outside and assume that they must be doing good. However, this was the very deception used in the garden. The fruit looked good. Not everything that looks good is. Not everyone who looks good is. Just like you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, you can’t judge a person or their life by how it looks either.

God doesn’t.
He doesn’t judge you by your reflection but by your heart.
How are you really doing?
How is your heart?

Lord Jesus,
Give me eyes to see beyond the reflections and ears to really listen to those around me today. Help me to see past the presented image of things and see them for what they really are.
Give me courage to look at my own heart and root out the things that are not good there and get rid of them. Show me what you see and may I live accordingly.

Love you, friend. Have a great eye opening day in His Presence.
