My friend, Stacy Alcala has a phrase on her blogspot that is “I am being challenged to choose present over perfection”.
Last week for me was good – every day packed with meetings, planning, preaching, connecting. By Friday I felt like a zombie. The living dead with my body falling apart, lol. Although I wasn’t worried about being perfect, but being present was a challenge. So I rested and didn’t do a darn thing (I did feed my family).
Isn’t when we are tired that being present is the most challenging? Perfect is just a mean dictator that looms overhead to condemn us into believing that we are not doing enough. Perfection is a liar, liar, pants on fire. There is no such thing as perfect just like there is no such thing as normal.
God has called you to live your life – live it. Not perform life or perfect it but live it. Get tired, frustrated, give, take, learn, grow and be present.
He has taken care of “perfect” so you could be present.
He has taken care of condemnation so you can live in grace.
He has destroyed “normal” (enslaved by sin) so you can be free to live your unique, personal, powerful expression of purpose.
“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! (Isaiah 43:18 MSG)
I suppose if I am so focused on an old idea of perfection, I can miss the new thing God wants to do.
Not perfect? Join the club.
Made some mistakes last week? Me too.
Last week is over. Let it go.
Today is here. Grab some grace and enjoy it.
