Bridal Shower….

Yesterday was one of  Sarah Grasso’s Bridal Showers.  As one of her bridesmaids (yea!) I got the honor to helping with this one. Let me tell you about Sarah. She is an amazing young woman and has been my sister-in-law for the last 15 years. She was 12 years old when she was a bridesmaid in my own wedding (gasp!). She has a servants heart of the greatest degree. She has gone after God wholeheartedly and has been serving in full time ministry for 7 years, not counting her years in Master’s Commission. She has refused to settle and has waited for the right man who gets the honor of being her husband. His name is Josh, we like him – he is a keeper. She is my hero.

With the beautiful California sun shining through the pool house windows at Rhonda’s, over thirty women of all ages came together to part-ay! What I love about this particular group is that along with family, these women have been friends forever. It is a group of moms that are now grand-moms, who have got together for every birthday, graduation, wedding,  and baby shower with Christmas parties, camping and Bible Studies sprinkled inbetween for the last 30 years.  They may have a few more wrinkles but they are all the more beautiful when they see each other and smile that genuine smile that only long time friends can. Both Great Grandma’s were there too – Grandma Alice who is 90 yrs old and Grandma Mary who is 92 years old.

When I asked Grandma Mary how she was doing, she replied, “Well, I can’t hear and I can’t see but I’m doing good!”. That is why we love her. No one would ever say that Grandma Mary has had an easy life but if attitude is everything then she is by far the wealthiest woman I have ever known. At the end of the shower, Grandma Mary shuffled up to me .  After I told her who I was, she exclaimed, “Oh it’s you, Cindy!” Then she  sat down next to me on the couch and told me how much she was enjoying the party. She said, “I’ve seen all these kids grow up, and now their kids have kids, I just love seeing all of them again.” She was beaming.

We ate, we drank yummy Cherry Limeades, passed out the cake to everyone who wanted a peice and talked, talked, talked. Then it was time for the beautiful Sarah to open her gifts. Bridal Shower gifts are like no others. They range from applicances, decorations, bedding, clothing (Ohh la la!) and even camping equipment. A Bridal Shower is meant to equipp you with whatever you might need for your new life with your new husband.

As I drove the  hour and half home  last night, I started thinking about the verse in 2 Peter that says, ” His divine power has given us everything we need for life” (vs3 ). As the Bride of Christ, we have had our a Bridal Shower – we have been given gifts. Spiritual gifts that equip us for everything we will need for life.

Sometimes I would like to argue with God and say, “Lord, I can’t do this. I don’t have it in me.”  or “It’s not my gift or my personality – surely you have made a grave mistake by putting this on my path.”

God doesn’t make mistakes, he does redeems them.  God doesn’t give up, forget or abandon His creation.

God created you with a purpose.  Then He gave you everything you need to fulfill it.

“For we are God’s workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Eph. 2:10

Both the words “created” and “prepared” are in past tense.

I heard a pastor say it this way:

“Whatever God calls you, you already are.

Faith unlocks that which He has already given you

to fulfill the plan He has for you.”

Not only does He know where you are, He knows what you need.

He has already prepared you for it.

Rest in His Grace, walk in His gifts and boldly live in His love.

I am praying for you…

Wonderful senerio of Sarah’s shower. I was just thinking about that day. Yes, it was nice to see everyone. I can’t wait for the wedding to see even more. But, as I read on I wondered, gee am I the one getting the wrinkles? I guess that cream that is supposed to do everything isn’t working up to its full potential. Hopefully by the wedding it will begin to work some. Thanks again for an uplifting blog. Cindy.
