The Doorway

We all have things we don’t want to do. You know, those things that must get done so that you can do the things you do want to actually do. It is even worse when those things are not in “the plan.” Your plan. Nonetheless, it has to get done, by you, today. In that moment you have a choice. You can moan and fuss and fight a bad attitude all day or you can ask God to show you the blessing in it because the very thing that is causing you frustration might be the very thing God wants to use to bless you. This unexpected thing might be the doorway to a desire of your heart. I know you don’t see how, but God does.

Psalms 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (NIV)

It doesn’t say take delight only when it is easy. It doesn’t say take delight when it’s a part of your plan. It doesn’t say take delight in the Lord when everything is going the way you want it to. The verse says take delight in the Lord.

My friend, there is a treasure waiting to be discovered in the midst of your drudgery. A blessing buried within what you may consider a curse. A purpose waiting to be found in the heart of the problem. The way to unlock it is found in delight. Not delight in the job, but delight in your God.

The discovery of true joy comes when you delight in your relationship with God no matter the task before you and when you see that in the middle of the mess, God has put a doorway.
